I know a lot of designers are afraid of narrowing in on a distinctive style and distinctive client for fear of missing out ( FOMO ). But here’s the thing, when you don’t hone in and instead try to be everything to everyone you miss a huge opportunity to be sought out as an expert. And that my friends, is the real FOMO. Bonus tip, once you’re known as the expert in your distinctive style it can open up the door for bigger design projects.
Finally, by understanding exactly who your dream client is, you can speak to them and share stories with them in a way that will resonate with them. If they feel like you get them – you’re their people and likewise, they’re your people – that’s where the magnet is.
